Updated Rocket Raccoon Makeup Tutorial/Makeup Reviews

What's up party people!? Hope everybody's weekend is going well! I've got the day off from classes and homework, so I decided to enjoy the rain, stay in, and watch a marathon of Law and Order: SVU. Going a little stir-crazy, I decided to do an update to the Rocket Raccoon Makeup!
I know in the initial tutorial, I didn't really give a whole lot of instruction as to what products I used and HOW I used them, so I wanted to do a sort of "revamped" tutorial. Something a little different about this makeup tutorial is also that it's more of an "everyday look" so it's a little less costumy than in the original cosplay!

First, let's talk makeup. I've gotten a few emails asking what brands of makeup I typically wear in a day. Luckily, this tutorial pretty much used ALL of my everyday makeup! So those questions will be answered! :D
All the pieces for the tutorial

So, the first step, is of course, foundation. Everybody has their own method of getting flawless foundation, but here's mine.

Foundation Products:

Elf Mineral Face Primer

Rimmel Clean Finish Matte Liquid Foundation

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

Physicians Formula Healthy Wear Bronzer

Maybelline Fit Me Blush

Tarte Finishing Powder

For me, I've got REALLY fair skin and freckles. So my shades of foundation are fairly pale, but I love super pink blushes. All I can say is, for being drug store brands, this stuff is AMAZING. The Rimmel powder is so soft and creamy feeling on your skin (weird for being a powder) that sometimes, I skip the primer and liquid foundation and just go with the light powder. Girls, you know what I mean, sometimes you just don't want 5 lbs of makeup on your face, so you sorta cut corners. But with this stuff, YOU CAN DO THAT. It's great! And if I remember correctly, it's under $10.
ALSO! If you're looking for a beauty blender (purple sponge at the top of the picture) DON'T BUY IT AT ULTA OR SEPHORA!! I know, blasphemy!! But I bought mine at Big Lots for about $3 compared to the makeup stores' $20 and this thing works better than the originals. I know you can get knock offs at a lot of different places now, but if you have a Big Lots, look for one! These ones are so smooth and non-porous! Definitely recommend.

Now for the eyes! I love playing with eye makeup. It's one of my favorite things in the world!

elf - eyelid primer

Maybelline Brow Drama - Blonde

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

Kat Von D Immortal Lash

Smoky eye pallet

This whole tutorial came about when I wanted to test out a new color pallet I got at Christmas. Anyone reading know what a Five Below is? Sort of like a step up from a dollar store? Well, I like buying their color pallets because they're only $5 and it's a cheap way to play around with new colors. This is the "Smoky" pallet and I also have the "Bare" pallet (which is what I wear everyday - sort of like a knock off of Urban Decay's Naked). On this pallet, the colors I used are the last three darkest and the lightest white on the opposite side. If you can't find a pallet matching this, you can always use drug store pallets. I know Covergirl has a "smoky eye pallet" with black, grey, and white shadows.

As for liner and mascara, I use Kat Von D brand products. Let me just say, I love EVERYTHING from this line. In particular, the Tattoo Eyeliner is MY FAVORITE. This is how I get my perfect cat eye everyday. This stuff does NOT leave your face. It's like giving yourself a tattoo with a sharpie. I absolutely adore it. The mascara is on the same level. It's easily the best mascara I've ever tried.
Eyebrows - this is a new development for me. I typically never paid any attention to doing my eyebrows, mainly because I didn't know how. When Maybelline came out with their Brow Drama brow gel, I thought I'd give it a try. It's great! If you're not really knowing what to do with your brows, TRY THIS! It comes in 3 different shades, blonde, brown, and dark brown, so it's easy to match to your natural brow! Lastly, my eyelid primer is simply elf's eye primer/liner sealer duo. I don't use the sealer on this, just because it makes everything wet and takes forever to dry, but I love the primer! Works like a charm!

Now before we get into the application process, I've gotta talk about one of the most important aspects of this tutorial, the tools for application.
For Christmas, my mother-in-law-to-be got me an amazing gift. The IT Cosmetics makeup brush set.

Why is this such a big deal? Well, the only makeup brushes I had were bought at a thrift store for $10 (never used, still in box). Pretty sure they were from Walmart, and they served me quite well for the past 2 years.
But they were starting to wear out...I took really good care of them, washing and conditioning them every few weeks, but they were really rough and kinda hard to clean. I had been looking for a new set of brushes, but everything I liked was SO expensive for a poor college student. Of course, I had mentioned this to Aaron, and when his mom asked what to get me for Christmas, he told her :P

You can find these brushes at Ulta for $65.

What's included:
Blurring Powder Brush
Soft Touch Blush Brush
Buffing Foundation Brush
Bent Liner Brush
Precision Crease Brush
All Over Shadow Brush
Case

These brushes are MAGICAL. They are SO soft. If you're ever in Ulta, and you see the IT Cosmetics display, YOU KNOW you play with it. When I saw these brushes online, I thought it was a super steep price for what you get, BUT now that I've used them, these things are AMAZING. If you're looking for some new brushes that are high quality and gonna last for a LONG time, I definitely recommend this set!!!

NOW FOR THE APPLICATION!

Application is fairly simple. First, I start with my normal foundation process.

  1. Elf mineral primer with the blender
  2. Liquid foundation under eyes - applied with included paddle
  3. Powder foundation all over - applied with flat powder brush
  4. Tarte Finishing Powder - I apply this all over my face, but mainly focus on under eye and cheekbone area. I apply this with the Buffing Foundation Brush, and this helps give a well blended look, and sort of buffs away dry flaky skin.
  5. Blush - Using the blush brush, I apply a fair amount of blush to the apples of my cheeks. You don't want a crazy amount of color. You're trying to keep the tone pretty neutral, but you still want to have life in your cheeks.
  6. Bronzer - Using the same brush, after getting rid of excess color, apply a small amount of bronzer around the frame of your face, using a 3 shape. Again, DON'T USE AN INSANE AMOUNT! The purpose of bronzer is to give some shadow to your face and highlight certain features. It needs to be SUBTLE. A crazy amount of bronzer is NOT cute. This diagram, for instance, NOT the amount you want. It's just showing you the method.

Now that we've got a solid foundation and blank canvas, lets do the fun part! Eyes!

  1. First, I use my elf Eyelid Primer and apply it all over my eyelid, up to the brow, and a little bit under the bottom lash line.
  2. Now comes the "hard" part. Applying the different shades of shadow can seem intimidating if you're a novice with makeup, but don't be afraid! If I can do it, so can you!So with this diagram, it'll kind of be easier to explain. In square 1, you'll apply the lightest shade of shadow, using the all over shadow brush. Box 2, apply the medium shade - grey/silver, also using the all over shadow brush. Box 3 and 4 use the darkest shadow - black, using the creased brush. Now, with the bent liner brush, I applied the darkest shade of shadow to the bottom lash line and used the all over shadow brush again to reapply more of the lightest white shade to the inner corner and brow bone. See? Not scary at all!
  3. Next up, liner. For this look, I skipped my normal cat eye and kept it simple. I only used a somewhat thick line of liquid liner on my upper lash line from the inner corner to the outer corner.
  4. Mascara
  5. Brows!
The result??

I'm happy with how this turned out! I think it's very Rocket Raccoon and looks super cute! This could be an everyday look or you could use it for a more relaxed cosplay look.

I loved this look so much, I wanted to play around with it a little more and threw on some red lipstick to it to see how it looked!

I think the red lip makes it pop even more, don't you? Super cute! Now hear me out, I'm obsessed with red lipstick. Literally every time I go to the store, I have to make a conscious effort not to go buy a new shade of red lipstick. But I have truly found my favorite red lip.

Yet again, another Kat Von D product. Like I said before, I absolutely LOVE this entire line. I have yet to try a single thing I don't like. This red lip in the shade, "Underage Red" is a classic red that would look good on almost ANY complexion. Definitely recommend. If you're curious about the Kat Von D products mentioned in this post, Sephora has a sample box of this shade of lipstick, the Tattoo Liner, AND the Immortal Lash Mascara for $20!!

Mail Time Goodies/Treat Yo Self

What's up party people!? Hope you're having a splendid day! You ready for today's dosage of nerdiness? I know I am!

First off, a package came in the mail that the Hubs and I have been waiting on for a while! We ordered some blind box scouters (Dragon Ball Z) from Think Geek! So excited about these things!!! And let me say, they're pretty flippin' sweet.

So, since Aaron and I are living in different states, he had them shipped to the house back in Texas, and I got to first watch him un-box his over Skype. Since it's blind box, we didn't know what color scouter we were going to get. The options were: Green, Blue, and Red. He opened the package and we got one green and one blue! Now, right after we ordered the two scouters, we placed dibs on who would get what, so with that already sorted out, he got the blue and I got the green. And let me just say, I'm stoked with my choice! :D

Some assembly is required with this scouter, but it's pretty self explanatory. Each box comes with the pieces to the scouter, and two cards that you can use to read the power level of different characters. Aaron, knowing my favorite character is Trunks and not sure if I would get his card, slipped HIS Trunks card in between the box flaps, JUST IN CASE I didn't end up getting one (Thanks hun :P).

The assembly is really easy. You just have to slide the black headpiece into the white ear piece and then slip the scouter lens into the white ear piece where the red button is.
AND VOILA!

The fit is kinda awkward, but it IS adjustable. It even fits over my glasses, so I can look EXTRA goofy. But for the most part, I think it looks pretty awesome!

The red button makes one and only one sound, but you can make it go for as long as you hold the button down. But the coolest part of this thing? It actually reads the cards. Now, it's no CRAZY technology. It's just kinda like those 3D books you would read when you were a kid (if you grew up in the early 90s like me). But none-the-less, it's pretty awesome and I was VERY amused.

Pretty sweet huh!? Maybe it's just me, but I found it very entertaining and worth the $10. But, having watched DBZ with my brothers almost every Saturday morning, it will always have a place in my heart! Final judgement, the level of coolness is OVER 9000.

Now then! You're probably thinking, "That's so exciting! That's gotta be all she got in the mail! That's TOO much excitement!!", and I'm sorry my friend, but this time you're wrong! The Celestia that Aaron bought me a few weeks ago, finally arrived too! (Thanks to my mom visiting me up here at school!)

Isn't she beautiful?! I love it already! As you probably know by now, I kinda have a POP! addiction. Everytime I go to the comic book store or Hastings, I typically walk out buying a POP! I can't help it! THEY'RE SO CUTE!!

She's so PERFECT. Aaron always does a good job at picking out the best POPs for me. She's a little bit bigger than the average pony pop, and her hair makes her a tad bit top heavy.

I think she might be my favorite Pony POP so far. She's just so cute and I'm in love with her hair!

Are y'all as crazy for POPs as I am? What POPs are you looking for now? Let me know in the comments!

NOW FOR TREAT YO'SELF.

Since my mom came up for a visit this weekend, we do what we always do and went shopping together :D We love shopping together and we always have a blast. Now, I won't go in to super detail and bore you guys with EVERYTHING I bought, but there was a few items I thought were worthy of sharing!

I mean, COME. ON. How perfect is this dress!? Now the sad news, I didn't buy it. . . I'm so bummed and kinda mad at myself for it, because it is BEYOND perfection. It fit like a glove, it was SO comfy, and that print...that...print. Just some stupid voice in my head said, "would you REALLY wear this? I mean, outside of Comic Con, where would you wear this?". So, listening to my stupid brain, I opted to get the skirt of this print instead.

The skirt was a great purchase, but I'm realllly wishing I bought that dress. Thinking about going up to the store to get it, but that "logical" part of my brain just won't shut up!! Anywho, if I do go back, y'all will be the first to know! Haha.

Welp! That's about all for today you guys! I hope y'all have a good day and had a great weekend! Anybody do anything exciting? Work on any cosplays? Let me know in the comments below! :D

New POPs Announced!

YOU GUYS! I'm so excited about what I just saw, I'm literally grinning ear to ear as I type this! Funko has just revealed they will be producing some Cinderella themed POPs in honnor of Disney's live action  Cinderella. Now WHY am I so excited about this?? Because not only are they producing Cinderella herself,

but they're also making GusGus!!! And not only is it just GusGus, but he's sitting in her slipper!

HOW FLIPPIN CUTE IS THAT?!?! I mean, I grew up on the Disney Classics, and GusGus was one of my favoite characters in Cinderella, aside from Bruno.

Right now, these figures are only available through Pre-Order, and though I don't have the money for him now, I promise GusGus, YOU WILL BE MINE!!! (Aaron - not a bad idea for a Valentine's day present...wink wink nudge nudge)

Are you excited for these POPs? Think you might pre-order?? Let me know in the comments down below!!

Sades A60 Headphones

HEY GUYS!!!

A while ago, I was searching for some GOOD gaming headphones, but I wasn't too sure what I wanted. As a female gamer, I love having girly gaming accessories - My Little Pony card sleeves (Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy of course), glitter dice sets, and washi tape covered xbox controllers to name a few. So, a few months, I had found some pink headphones that I fell in love with. They were Sades A60...and did I mention they were PINK?! How perfect?! The only problem? They were about $55. . . as a broke college student, it was NOT really something I could just drop cash on. So I threw it on my Amazon wish list and sort of forgot about them.

Until Christmas day.

I know I brag about my awesome fiancé Aaron a lot, but good god you guys, he REALLY done good this time. He made me open my presents in a specific order, with the biggest box being last. I ripped the paper and immediately saw the pink. I swear, I don't think I've squealed that loud...EVER. I absolutely could NOT believe that he remembered! More than I could ever ask for!! (I know he reads this so, THANK YOU POOKIE!)

NOW THEN! The whole reason I wanted to post about these amazeball ear speakers, is because they are literally some of the best headphones I've ever used. Here's the specs:

Some features that were sort of a surprise when I actually got them plugged in, it lights up on the sides!
It also comes with a disk that you can use to install the software to precisely control the sound that will pour out into your ear holes. Last but certainly not least, probably the coolest thing is the vibrate feature. It's like the rumble in console controllers. But on your ears. Kinda weird at first, but REALLY cool once you get used to it!! It's easily switched off on the corded remote.

Did I mention I LOVE these headphones? Sadly, the Rocket the Raccoon attachment is not included, but I'm sure you can find one at your local comic book store! All in all, these things are AMAZEBALLS. Absolutely love them and DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone searching for a good pair of gaming headphones!
